Antivirus

You've probably heard lots of people say "Nortons is crap" or some other brand is crap. Well, here's news for you, "They're all CRAP". All of them slow down your computer and occasionally cause it to crash. But unless you are super careful about every email you open and every web site you visit, then run AntiVirus and AntiSpyware and Anti any thing else.

There are a few freebies out there that you can install and run for nothing, so if you're on a budget, have a "Google" for "free antivirus download" and see what you can find. Most of the freebies are as good as any you will pay for. Most freebies are for "home use only", so it is up to you to be honest and pay for them if you are using them in a business environment.

Be Aware
AntiVirus and Anti everything else only protects you from between 60% - 95% of nasties out there. You still need to be careful about what you are doing. Most problems come from visiting porn sites, hacker sites or key crack sites, so avoid these.

It is a good idea to schedule a full virus scan once a month, as new viruses, spyware, trojans, etc are found all the time and the virus software is usually a couple of weeks behind the virus writers, so the potential is there for you to get a virus on your PC before the updates come out.

Make sure your Anti everything is set to do automatic downloads and check that these are working.
