Websites
Do you need a website? They work brilliantly for a small number of businesses, OK for most and not at all for some. Think seriously about what a website does, who will look it up, what information they will be looking for and anything else you can think of.
Website prices can vary greatly. The trick in getting the most for your money is to decide roughly what you want before you get us in. In many cases, a website could have been done for a 3rd of the cost had the client spent time finding websites they liked, working out what was relevant to their business and typed out most or all of the content AND didn't keep changing their mind every second day.
Things to Consider
Can it just be simple html? This is all our site is. It's quick to load, cheaper to design and in most cases, all you really need. If you want a Flash page (moving pictures or a movie), then the cost goes up dramatically. They look fantastic, but can be slow to load and if not done properly, only confuse people, but if you have new and innovative products, then you probably want a web page that looks new and innovative. Try to get your web page to reflect your business and other advertising.
Not Magic
It's a damn shame, but web pages aren't magic. They are just a form of advertising like any other. They can be great where distance is a factor, clients are likely to be technologically advanced people, you want to allow easy comparisons with your product and others and a whole lot of other reasons. Google have a number of ways to increase traffic to your website, speak to your web designer about these. If you don't have a web designer, give us a call and we can recommend one.
Bottom Line
Websites can be great. You're reading one now! It works for us. Our shopfront is in cyberspace, costs practically nothing once it is up and running and provides information 24 x 7. Just make sure that's what you need before you get one. |
